The Puglisi Gun Emporium Side by Side Challenge has evolved from a simple ATA type doubles competition to a full-fledged shooting event in 4 short years. This year's event will once again be held at the beautiful Old Vermilion Trail Hunting Preserve (see link) located near Duluth, MN. This event will challenge the shooters to attempt targets in three different shooting disciplines.
Saturday's Sporting Clays Event will find the shooters traversing trails carved through northern Minnesota's vast forest land. This 460 acre parcel will be the host for the 2008 Minnesota Super Sporting Clays Tournament. Course designer, Burt Schwieger, will lay out a course that can only be described at "European" in that he controls the degree of difficulty by using terrain and deception instead of speed and distance to challenge the shooters as they attempt 65 targets. The scores will be handicapped for small bore shooters.
The Sporting Skeet Event is another one of Mr. Schweiger's evil plans to put a twist in an old game. In this case, the shooter will attempt 3 true pair from stations 2 through 6 and on station 8 of a regulation skeet field for a total of 36 targets. Once, again, scores will be handicapped for small bores.
The Pigeon Ring Event will challenge shooters ability to shoot quickly and accurately as it will require the clay pigeon not only to be broken but for it to drop it's "token" within the prescribed "Pigeon Ring". The event is planned to have the shooter attempt 2 singles from an outgoing, oscillating and wobbling trap, followed by two true pair comprised of one of the outgoing targets and an "on comer" for a total of 24 targets. The event will allow, but not require full use of the gun on the singles. The Pigeon Ring is not handicapped, so bring all the gun you have!
Side games, with prize money paid out via the Lewis System, will be available both Saturday and Sunday.
Both Saturday and Sunday vendors will be on site to feed our double gun addiction.
Saturday evening will provide us an opportunity to award for performance in each of the events as well as a High Over-all and Runner-up for the day. It will also be the time for us to serve a fantastic meal and give out door prizes. Plan to stay overnight and take part in Sunday's events.
Sunday is dedicated to Sporting Clays. The shooter will be invited to compete with each other and themselves over a 50 target course. There will be prizes for the high score in each of the gauges 410, 28,20,16 and 12. The shooter may re-shoot any of the gauges but only the last score will be considered for awards.
The "Pigeon Ring" & "Side Games" will be open for those that want to avenge Saturday's results!
